Chapter 3

I like the connection the chapter makes with the linking of neurons is like the linking of computer sites and information. Of course the human brain is more complex than a computer is. We should be making connections with everything we are doing by naturally linking our information together where as a computer can only link things together when we make them. I thought it was cool how we learned how to make a web site with several web pages and learned how to link them together. I can see how that can be a great use in the classroom with putting games for your students on your own web page but have resources from several different places.
I was not sure if I like the idea of putting my lesson plans on the internet for the families. The only reason why I am even going to make them is to remind myself what I am doing and give it to my principal when they want to see it. The lesson plans as well will be so short labeled a parent more than likely will not know what the assignment is they should do. In my class the students will have a planner in their book bag where I can communicate with the parents and have a homework folder where parents will know what the homework is.
This chapter was not that bad to read compared to the first two. It still hurts my eyes to sit and read the screen for several hours as it does take. I feel I still read very slowly on the computer compared to a book.

Chapter 2

I thought it was very true about the idea of interconnecting images with text. As an art person I know, as does anyone who has looked at forms of art work, that images can evoke emotions, thought, and inspire people without ever seeing text. Students would be able to learn so much more if their text were complemented by a great image but also if students took time to analyze images and build a better understanding of what images are really trying to say.
I don't really agree with the Ogn wrote about how people are still obsessed with written language as if that is bad. Written language is the starting point of learning how to read and understand language within a textual setting. Technology text should not be introduced until the written stage has been mastered. I think teachers should be obsessed with their students being able to have written language first and for most then allow the students to move on to other forms of making print.

Response to reading

The reading was kind of interesting but I found confusing because it was all on the computer. I did not like the fact that it was a digital text. Not only did it begin to hurt my eyes but it seems like it took me longer to read and seemed as if there was a lot more text than there really was.
The part I found interesting was the time line of technology and how it was progressed and gotten more complex over the last few centuries specifically. I still dont understand how something on a computer is 3-D. Nothing on a 2-D plane can be 3-D. The computer can give an illusion of 3-D but never is it really the case. So the whole time it gave examples of that I kept thinking it was fullish. I do understand that we are in an age where we have to correct perceive and interpret the new technological pallet of ideas brough about by computers and multimedia. However, I did not like the analogy of how there are 4 generations of thinking or people. It said the top or last generation is the computer generation and made it seem as if you didnt opperate at that level then you were below or inferior to those that did. I did not like that because I believe it is like Gardners multiple intelligence theory. I do believe you are just interested in computers and might have an innate ability to manuever better than someone else such as an artist with paint. So by no means would I consider someone that is technological savy to be smarter or on a higher level than someone that merely would rather write text, read text from a book or something other than high tech.

Experience with computers

I grew up mostly with a computer in my life. When I was little I remember messing around on it and playing computer games. I was allowed to explore and wonder around which helped me figure out how to do things. However, I do not know how to do many things that I would consider technical. I know the basics such as how to email, type documents, attach files, search the web, ect. When it comes to the computer jargon, I know nothing of the sort. All I did growing up was look up topics of interest and learn about subjects from the web. I have had to blog before and did not particularly enjoy it. I have had to post photos of assignmenents before and likewise did not enjoy the hassel it was. That is the extent of experience I have had with computers.
